Snow Foam Explained: What It Is and How to Use It with a Foam Lance or Foam Gun

Snow Foam Explained: What It Is and How to Use It
Snow foam is a shampoo that turns into thick, snow-like foam covering the whole car. It looks great, but its real value is that it reduces the swirl marks caused during washing.
How It Works
Thick foam clings to vertical panels much longer than ordinary shampoo, softening dirt, encapsulating grit and starting to draw it downwards. When you rinse, much of the dirt comes off before a mitt ever touches the paint, which reduces friction.
Foam Lance or Foam Gun?
- Foam lance on a pressure washer: much thicker foam and faster coverage – best for car washes and enthusiasts.
- Foam gun on a garden hose: lighter foam, but still helpful without a pressure washer.
- No equipment: use snow foam shampoo in a bucket with the two-bucket method.
Which Product?
- Snow Foam 100: one litre makes up to 100 litres of foam – ideal for home use and small car washes.
- Snow Foam 400: one litre makes up to 400 litres – lowest cost for busy car washes.
Both wash and wax in one, are phosphate-free and pH balanced – safe on wax, ceramic coatings and PPF – and produce coloured foam.
About dilution: the stated ratio is the final dilution reaching the car. A pressure-washer foam lance mixes in extra water, so the concentration inside the lance bottle is higher. Follow the label and your equipment's instructions, and adjust the lance screw until the foam is thick.
How to Use It
- Rinse the car first (for very dirty cars start with Pure Glide).
- Apply foam from the bottom up so the dirtiest lower panels get the longest dwell.
- Leave 3–5 minutes – never let it dry; shorten the time in hot sun.
- Rinse from the top down.
- Follow with a two-bucket mitt wash if dirt remains – see our car wash guide.
Common Mistakes
- Foaming a hot car in the sun – foam dries and spots.
- Thinking snow foam alone replaces washing on very dirty cars.
- Putting dish soap in the lance – it strips wax.
FAQ
Why is my foam runny? Usually too little product in the bottle, a mis-set lance, or low pressure-washer output.
Does snow foam strip my wax? SOLVAR snow foam is pH balanced and safe on wax and ceramic, and adds a light wax layer itself.
Can I use it on motorcycles? Yes – just avoid aiming high pressure at electrics, bearings and the chain.
